‘I decided to join QMC as opposed to my local college for its great reputation and sports facilities. I wanted to pursue my football and QMC offered a girls football academy. Being at QMC meant i could study for a sports science BTEC alongside playing plenty of competitive college football. QMC allowed me to get the qualifications i needed for a US university soccer scholarship, as well as keep up my fitness and develop my football skills and tactical understanding further. The college gave me advice on my possible future career as a footballer and helped me to make the best decisions going forward.’

Female Academy Student- Chloe Melton (2010-2012)

"When looking around QMC for the first time at one of their open evenings I was immediately struck by the sporting and more specifically for me football opportunities available at college. It was made very clear to me that evening that I wanted to come to QMC and that QMC (well the Sport department at least!) wanted me to come as well. As a referee, the Sport staff outlined the opportunities and support they would provide if I came to QMC. So I rolled up in my first week and was immediately asked to referee a first team football match! Over the two years I have regularly refereed college academy matches, which have contributed to my A-Level in PE. In addition to this the links with Hampshire FA have allowed me to work with Hampshire FA in various refereeing and coaching opportunities, including completing my Level 1 in football coaching. I also became a member of the Football Development Committee, getting involved in Friday lunchtime Team 19 and organising a 24 hour football match. All these opportunities have helped me over the past two years realise that I want to take refereeing and football beyond college, when I go to Solent University to study Sport Coaching and Development. This has led to me being selected to be a member of the Hampshire FA Referee Youth Council, building on the work I have been involved with by being a member of the Football Development Committee. I will also be continuing to develop my refereeing down in Southampton, building on the awards I have won during my time at college which include, “Services to Refereeing” and “Basingstoke young official of the year”.
